Why do you feel the need to make up stories? Why can't you just be yourself here? I'm sincere in wondering why you make all these threads. If you were to answer "boredom" I could understand. But I imagine it's more complicated than that.

I think from a psychological perspective the question would be why did humanity create Gods?
Science is my God now, suck it Jesus.

Avoiding the Meeting
by brotherdan inso, darth plaugeis (or however you spell it) has suggested that the best way to get out of going to the meeting is to tell your wife that it's time to get ready for the meeting, and when her back is turned hit her over the head with a large object.. i'm sure there are better ways to get out of going.
i'm looking for some real ideas here.
" i like the whole getting your wife (or husband) drunk before the meeting so they won't want to go idea.

But you have to go to the meeting to get the kool-aid. Where else will you go?
As far as getting out of going, tell her you have explosive diarrhea.

They are part of the Quiverfull religion/cult. They are obsessed with being breeders. What’s interesting is they don’t allow their children to watch TV but they seem to have no problem whoring their family out to the media. I imagine it has a lot to do with money they might receive from the show and interviews. That’s a lot of mouths to feed.

My Lord spoke and told me to post
by watersprout inmy lord spoke to me for the first time yesterday and this morning he told me to post my experience.. i know there are going to be ones who will call me names and thats ok. i will accept whatever you feel you need to say.. here goes.
i heard a voice calling ''my child'', this happened while at the zoo so i was taken off guard!
i replied ''who is this?

It seems like if someone doesn't pat Watersprout on the back for hearing a voice they get accused of being malicious. You'll have to forgive me for instantly attempting to use logic and reason to understand something. That's just how I think now. I didn't always think this way. Waterspout, have you ever heard any voices before this incident? Have you ever had a visual hallucination?
I'm speaking generally and not to Waterspout, but I think it's important to realize that someone who would encourage someone else’s "delusions" might not have that persons best interests in mind. As this thread points out though, the definition of "delusion" is subjective.

You should start your own religion. You do realize most religions were started by someone claiming either auditory or visual hallucinations. I call it the God of mental illness. Was it a booming voice from the clouds or just a voice inside your head? Have you experienced any traumatic incidences lately? Not just physical, possibly emotional trauma?

1975 - Lest We Forget
by GetBusyLiving ini find the topic of the 1975 end of the world scenario facinating, especially since i never lived through it.
do you old schoolers ever feel concerned that people will one day forget about what really went down?
with whitewashed tripe like the 'proclaimers' book informing dubs that it was just the false expectations of over enthusiastic apostates, are you at all concerned that the legacy of bullshit that is 1975 will be a forgotten moment in history blamed on you instead where the blame really belongs?

I think these predictions were used by Jehovah to perform sifting work amongst His people, to determine who His true followers are, and who were not, and those who left were obviously not 'sheep' as they once thought they were.
I have heard this "sifting" argument before and it drives me crazy how absurd it is. There might have been a sifting going on after 1975 but it certainly wasn’t caused by Yahweh. After 1975 many people woke up to the fact that they were in a Doomsday Cult that was making false prophecies about the end of the world. Unfortunately not everyone who sees through the Watchtower’s lies are free to leave. Their families are literally held hostage. What a loving organization.

Jehovah's Witnesses are depressing
by wannabefree inlearning the truth about my faith as a jw (that it is wrong) actually has resulted in me having a more positive outlook on life, postive about today even though it has its problems.. but today, speaking with close jw friends (strong witnesses at that), i find myself hearing nothing but depressed thoughts.
when everything you talk about as a witness is how terrible the world is but soon (for over 100 years) the "new system" will be here ... just hang on ... is it any wonder so many jw's are on anti-depressants?.
it is depressing being surrounded by depressed people.. .

Not only are they depressing but I think it's not mentally healthy to be around them. Once you've been awakened it's literally torturous to be in that environment again.

Boxing or MMA...
by peacedog inif you have more than a passing interest in either of these two sports, you might be interested in ufc 118 tomorrow night.
mma legend randy couture fights heavyweight boxing champion james toney in the co-main event.. my money is on couture.
personally i think james toney is delusional for stepping into the octagon as a boxer, particularly against a guy with a strong wrestling background like couture.

Thanks for the heads up about the prelims Peacedog. I have to pick Randy by a first round TKO from ground and pound. As long as he doesn't get knocked out trying to set up the takedown. I still can't believe Randy is competing at 47.

My JW Relatives Don't Call or Write...Is This Normal?
by Cold Steel inthey've been jws for years, but they've never once called, written or seemed to have wanted anything to do with us.
they weren't like this when they were still catholics.
are they told not to have anything to do with non-members, even family?

You often find this kind of behavior in cults. The members are instructed to isolate themselves from non cult members, even family. By only associating with other cult members this creates a environment where Group Think can be overwhelming. A cult like the People's Temple was able to go so far as physically isolating their members. You really need to study more about cult behavior if you desire to understand why your JW relatives behave the way they do.
